Page history last edited by PBworks 16 years, 11 months ago

Read the information on how to get ready for the hurricane season (on NHC's official website) and answer the following questions:

  1. What should you do before the hurricane season begins?
  2. What kind of food should you have in your house? Click on 'Disaster supply kit' to find out.
  3. What equipment should you have in your house?
  4. What should you do about money and personal documents?
  5. What should you do if you have pets (dogs, cats, etc.)?
  6. What telephone numbers should you have available? Click on 'Family disaster plan' to find out.
  7. What medical knowledge should you have?
  8. What should you take with you if there is a hurricane warning?

Here are some suggested answers (but there's more information on the site!)

  1. Before the season begins, you should prepare a disaster kit and make a detailed plan for you and your family.
  2. You should have food for 3 to 7 days. It should be non-perishable (like canned food, biscuits, etc.).
  3. You should have cooking utensils, a radio and a flashlight with batteries, a tool kit, a phone with an extra battery.
  4. You should have some money with you and the important documents should be put in a plastic or waterproof bag.
  5. Your pets should have identification and you should carry a cage and a leash to keep them with you.
  6. You should have a friend's telephone number in another city or state, and you should teach your children how to use the emergency number (911).
  7. You should have some first-aid training, so it's a good idea to take classes.
  8. You should take your Disaster supply kit with you.
