Ambiguity

Page history last edited by PBworks 16 years, 8 months ago

Here are more examples of signs and notices written in English. They sound funny because the writer wasn't careful enough when he wrote them... Can you re-write the sentences to eliminate ambiguity?

  • Please do not feed the animals. If you have any suitable food, give it to the guards.  (at a zoo)
  • Ladies are requested not to have children in the bar.
  • We take your bags and send them in all directions.  (at an airline office)
  • Doctor: specialist in women and other diseases.  (at a doctor's office)
  • Horses: please close the gate.  (at a park)
  • Wanted: woman to look after a baby who doesn't smoke or drink.  (job advertisement)
